Sweden Stacks Jan15-1669r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1669 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $11,162.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 3 Daler Plate Money, 1718. Karl XII (1697-1718). 9 x 9.25 in. EXTREMELY RARE (Tingstrom: only 13 examples known). A revaluation stamp of 3 Dalers 1718 applied at Stockholm to a 1711 2 Daler of Avesta, with crossed arrows below mintmark. The new denomination stamp was to increase the intrinsic value by 50% on plates produced between 1710 and May 1715. Revalued plates are EXTREMELY RARE, seldom offered and highly sought after by collectors. Center stamp is about three-quarters complete, with four legible complete dates. A seldom seen revaluation type with attractive light brown patina. VERY FINE."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.
