This specimen was lot 34691 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $7,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. Friedrich Ulrich 2 Taler 1625-HS XF45 PCGS, Goslar or Zellerfeld mint, Hermann Schlanbusch as mintmaster. Without value stamp. Struck to commemorate the yield of St. Jacob's mine in the Harz Mountains. A rare Double Taler depicting St. Jacob, staff in hand and standing on flower-covered ground, with Jehovah's name displayed above within a radiant sun. This expansive offering measures nearly 67 mm across, its impressive scale allowing for an vast canvas in metal for the struck features. Glossy throughout the surfaces, with wear sufficiently light as to enable expression of the motifs, the whole of the planchet deeply toned and revealing gentle traces of iridescence." Another rare double thaler, one of many from this state. Duke Friedrich Ulrich ruled 1613-34.
