This specimen was lot 1990 in Goldberg sale 122 (Los Angeles, June 2021), where it sold for $4,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Transylvania. Gold Ducat, 1682. Michael Apafi, 1661-1690. Bust with hat and holding scpter right. Reverse: Crowned arms. Wavy flan with a trace of luster remaining. Scarce type. PCGS graded AU-55." This type, from the final years of Transylvanian independence, was struck 1678-83. Like most Transylvanian ducats, it is rare and expensive.
