Goldberg sale 104, lot 3544
I of Man G104-3544r.jpg

This specimen was lot 3544 in Goldberg sale 104 (Los Angeles, June 2018), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "Isle of Man. Platinum Noble, 1985. Elizabeth II. Reverse: Viking ship. PCGS graded Proof 69 Deep Cameo." The Isle of Man lies in the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland and remains a British dependency. It is famous for motorcycle racing and tailless cats. Token coppers were issued for the island in the eighteenth century but large production did not commence until 1971. About 1980, the island fell under the domination of the Pobjoy Mint, which has minted and marketed dozens of NCLT commemoratives. This type was issued 1985-87.

Recorded mintage: 3,000 proofs plus an unknown number of business strikes.

Specification: 31.10 g, .999 fine platinum.

Catalog reference: Fr-B3; KM-154.
