Luxembourg 1946 100 francs

formerly in the Mountain Groan Collection

This type was struck in 1946 to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the reign of king John the Blind of Bohemia. Tho king John ruled in Bohemia, his dynastic name was Luxemburg and he had substantial estates there. Luxembourg was searching for something to celebrate in 1946, having just survived Nazi devastation and not yet received Marshall Plan aid. A silver twenty and fifty francs accompany this issue.

Recorded mintage: 98,000 plus 100 proofs.

Specification: 25 g, 0.835 fine silver, .671 troy oz ASW, 37 mm diameter, designed by Armand Bonnetain.
