Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71820

This specimen was lot 71820 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Kingdom of the Netherlands. Cent, 1859. Utrecht Mint; privy mark: sword. William III. NGC MS-63 Brown. A pleasing and consistent bright hazel color with immaculately preserved fields and satiny luster." This type was struck in large quantities 1855-60 and accompanied a half cent and 2½ cent. A very similar coin (KM 307.2) was struck for queen Wilhelmina 1896-1912.

Recorded mintage: 40,800,000.

Specification: 4.8 g, copper, 22 mm diameter.
