This specimen was lot 1886 in Jean Elsen sale 162 (Brussels, June 2025), where it sold for €600 (about US$832 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FINLANDE, République (1917-), AV 1000 markkaa, 1999. Jean Sibelius. Encapsulé, dans l'écrin original, avec certificat. Titre 0,900. (republic of Finland, since 1917, gold 1000 markkaa of 1999, for Jean Sibelius. Encapsulated, with original box and certificate, Proof.)"
Composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) is a national hero in Finland credited with single handedly creating Finnish music. Finland is a founding member of the euro and the markkaa is now obsolete.
