Sincona sale 90, lot 1898

This specimen was lot 1898 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$185 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Slowakische Republik, 1939-1945. 1 Korun 1944, Kremnica. Fast FDC. (Slovak Republic, 1939-45, one korun of 1944, Kremnitz mint. About uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1940-45 by the Nazi-dominated puppet regime of Slovakia, separated from Czechoslovakia when the Nazis occupied Bohemia and Moravia in 1939. Slovakia was reunited with Bohemia-Moravia in 1945 by the Soviet Red Army. This example realized nine times the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 884,000, a somewhat scarce date.

Specification: 5 g, copper-nickel, 22 mm diameter, this specimen 4.96 g.

Catalog reference: KM 6.
