Glatz 1541 thaler Dav-8134
This specimen was lot 2264 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 18,000 CHF (about US$24,239 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Schlesien, Glatz, Johann von Pernstein, 1537-1548. Taler 1541, Glatz. Sehr selten, Sehr schön, Felder geglättet, (Germany, Silesia, duchy of Glatz, John of Pernstein, 1537-48, thaler of 1541, Glatz mint. Very rare. Very fine. Fields tooled."
This rare type was struck 1540-44 and 1548. Glatz, now called Kłodzko in Poland, was in the sixteenth century a semi-independent duchy in Silesia whose lords originally descended from duke Bolesław III Wrymouth (d. 1138) of Poland. This thaler and the accompanying double thaler (Dav-8133) and triple thaler (Dav-A8133) are the only large silver issues of this ruler. The SCWC lists this under Bohemia but it belongs under Silesia. Wikipedia comments,

He was high treasurer of Moravia in 1506–1516 and Landeshauptmann of Moravia in 1515–1519 and in 1526–1528 and governor of Moravia in 1530–1532. ...In 1537, King Ferdinand I of Bohemia mortgaged the County of Kladsko, which belonged immediately to Bohemia, to Jan of Pernštejn for 83464 guilders.
