Sincona sale 18, lot 1570

This specimen was lot 1570 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 5,250 (about US$6,918 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Taler 1541. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Silesia-Liegnitz-Brieg, thaler of 1541, nice extremely fine.)"

Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland. This type is listed for 1541-46 and is rather scarce. The duke, Friedrich II, ruled 1488-1547.
