sincona sale 18, lot 2968
Nijmegen in 1648, in Gelderland, near the border with Cleve

This specimen was lot 2968 in Sincona sale 18 (Zurich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 450 (about US$593 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Taler zu 30 Stüber 1563. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Netherlands, city of Nijmegen, thaler of thirty stuber of 1563. Very fine to extremely fine.)"

Nijmegen, just south of Arnhem, is now part of Gelderland. Coins were issued for Nijmegen throughout the seventeenth century but are scarce compared to the issues of Holland or Utrecht.
