Sincona sale 87, lot 4082

This specimen was lot 4082 in Sincona sale 87 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$135 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, 6 Sols 1765, Genf. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Geneva, six sols of 1765, Geneva mint. Rare in this condition, About uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1765, 1776 and 1791 and is fairly common. Nearly all the other issues of Geneva for the eighteenth century are rare. This type was struck in both billon or silver; from the toning visible in the photo, this specimen appears to be billon.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, this specimen 2.86 g.

Catalog reference: KM 82, D.T. 1012a, HMZ 2-346b.
