Sincona sale 57, lot 2664

This specimen was lot 2664 in Sincona sale 57 (Zurich, May 2019), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$595 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Hohenlohe-Waldenburg, Grafschaft. Ludwig Gottfried, 1685-1728. 1/8 Taler 1685, Schillingsfürst. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. (Germany, county of Hohenlohe-Waldenburg, Louis Gottfried, 1685-1728, one-eighth thaler of 1685, Schillingsfurst mint. Very rare, Very fine.)"

We believe the normally accurate auction cataloguers made several errors on this lot. The coins is marked "VI", making it a six kreuzer, not an eighth thaler. The ruler is mentioned as "LVD:GUST:", namely Ludwig Gustav, count of Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Schillingsfurst, 1656-97, not Ludwig Gottfried, count of Hohenlohe-Pfedelbach, 1685-1728, who does not appear to have issued this denomination. Still, a rare type.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 3.07 g.

Catalog reference: KM 18, Albrecht 249 a.
