This specimen was lot 3725 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $675.63. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxe-Old-Weimar. Taler, 1587. Friedrich Wilhelm I with Johann III (1573-1602). NGC AU-58. First year mintage of this series (1587-94). Dark iridescent toning. Nice details. From the Rockaway Collection." This type was struck 1587-94. This branch of the Wettins fell extinct in 1605.
