The name 'Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela' replaced 'Republica de Venezuela' on all coinage from 2000. Bolivar fractionals and multiples have a variety of compositions.

Shown is a 2002 fifty bolivares, minted in Maracay (Venezuela). The obverse features the portait of Simon Bolivar, recognized as liberator of the Venezuelans from rule by the Spanish. The portrait was designed by Albert Barre in Paris. The reverse features the coat of arms, denomination, and date.
