The name 'Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela' replaced 'Republica de Venezuela' on all coinage from 2000. Bolivar fractionals and multiples have a variety of compositions.

Shown is a 2002 hundred bolivares, composition nickel-clad steel, minted in Maracay (Venezuela). The obverse features the portrait of Simon Bolivar, recognized as liberator of the Venezuelans from rule by the Spanish. The portrait was designed by Albert Barre in Paris. The type is recorded in the SCWC for 2001, 2002 and 2004.
