from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 22376

This is a peso minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1887. It is a rare date of a common type struck 1868-91 but nice examples are always worth a premium. This specimen was lot 22376 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $8,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. Peso, 1887-So. NGC MS-63. Sharply struck, brilliant and attractive. From the Alex Siegel Collection."

Recorded mintage: 23,000, a rare date.

Specification: 25 g, .900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 37 mm diameter.
