Gwalior AH 1131/1 rupee
This specimen was lot 33213 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Mughal Empire. Rupee, AH 1131 Year 1 (1719). Gwalior Mint. Rafi-ud-Darjat. PCGS Genuine--Edge Repaired, Unc Details. Despite the noted edge repair, this example is a presentable representative of the brief ruler Rafi-ud-Darjat." Rafi-ud-Darjat was briefly Mughal emperor before his early demise at the age of 19. He either died of tuberculosis or was murdered. He was succeeded by his brother Rafi ud-Daulah as emperor Shah Jahan II two days later. In this period, the Gwalior state was still part of the Mughal empire but would break away in the 1760's.
