Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 76509

This specimen was lot 76509 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. Qajar Dynasty. Toman, AH 1272 (1855/56). Dar al-Mulk Tabaristan Mint. Nasir al-Din Shah. PCGS AU-58. This charming and alluring nearly-Mint Toman delivers exceptional eye appeal, with sharp luster and good impressed details. Only limitedly handled, and consequently, quite impressive." This type was struck at Tabaristan AH 1271-1280, 1288, one of twelve mints to do so. One kran was one thousand dinars and one toman was ten krans.
