This specimen was lot 32448 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria gold 'Jubilee Head' Sovereign 1893-S MS61 PCGS, Sydney mint. An example possessing flashy lustrous surfaces." The Sydney mint was opened in 1855 to strike the gold found in Australia and was not employed to strike ordinary circulation coinage until 1920. This is the last issue of the "Jubilee head," which was used on the sovereign 1887-93.
Recorded mintage: 1,498,000 plus 1,346,000 of the old head type.
