This specimen was lot 23055 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria gold Sovereign 1893-M, MS62 PCGS, fully lustrous with typical small surface marks. Scarcer date/mint." This type was struck 1893-1901 at Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, which were not used to strike Australian coins until 1916. This is a common date. Australia maintained the sterling silver standard until 1945, years after Great Britain had debased her coins to 0.500 fine.

Recorded mintage: 1,914,000 plus 1,649,000 of the Jubilee Head.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold.
