India 2003-M rupee
This specimen was part of lot 2441 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), which not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA: Republic, 3-coin proof set, 2003-M, struck at the Mumbai Mint, commemorating General Veer Durgadass (1638-1718), including 100 (silver), 10, and 1 rupee, sealed in original booklet with paper sleeve; set of 3 coins." Wikipedia comments, "Durgadas Rathore (1638-1718) was a Rathore Rajput general of the Kingdom of Marwar. He is credited with having preserved the rule of the Rathore dynasty over Marwar (present-day Rajasthan), India, following the death of Maharaja Jaswant Singh in the 17th century." This coin was taken from a proof set and has an M mintmark, uncirculated coins struck for the mint set have a diamond mintmark. The set also contained a 100 rupees (KM 333) and a ten rupees (KM 332). Circulating rupees of this design were made at Hyderabad with a star mint mark. As of July 2025, one rupee = US$0.012.
