This specimen was lot 3578 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$432 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Oskar II. 1872-1905 50 Öre 1896. Vorzüglich-gutes vorzüglich (kingdom of Norway, Swedish rule, Oscar II, 1872-1905, fifty Öre of 1896, extremely fine or better.)"
In 1907, Norway obtained a divorce from Sweden and became an independent kingdom under a Danish prince. Even before passing under Swedish rule in 1814, Norway had enjoyed a separate coinage from Denmark. The specimen shown here is from of a type struck 1877-1904 and was accompanied by one and two kroner of similar design. Many dates are very scarce. This one is a slightly better date.
Recorded mintage: 500,000.
Specification: 5 g, 0.600 fine silver, this specimen 5.00 g.
