Sincona sale 82, lot 1886

This specimen was lot 1886 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 9,500 CHF (about US$12,714 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria, 1837-1901. Pattern Quarter Sovereign 1853, London. Small young head, plain edge, die axis 12h (en medaille). By William Wyon. Äusserst selten (Extremely rare). NGC PROOF Details. Vorderseite leicht gereinigt (Lightly cleaned on obverse)." This unusual pattern seems to have been a revival of the old gold crown last struck for Charles II (Fr-279). It was not adopted.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.99 g, 0.917 fine gold; this specimen 1.92 g.

Catalog reference: KM Pn113, WR 365 (R4).
