The first specimen was lot 3601 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$965 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Mailand, Galeazzo Maria Sforza, 1466-1476. Grosso da 8 Soldi o. J. Selten. Sehr schön. (duchy of Milan, Galeazzo Maria Sforza, 1466-1476, undated grosso of eight soldi. Rare, Very fine.)"

The second specimen was lot 75324 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[2] noted, "ITALY. Milan. Grosso, ND (1466-76). Milan Mint. Galeazzo Maria Sforza. PCGS EF-45. Magenta and verdant gray cabinet hues intermingle across the flan of this challenging Milanese issue. Boasting a reasonably well executed and evenly centered strike, eye appeal is quite strong and some original brightness still remains in the recesses. An excellent Grosso for consideration, this is the first we can recall offering in over a decade." The French invasion of 1499 touched off a multisided war that ended in the 1550's with the Hapsburgs dominating Italy. Milan and Naples were Habsburg possessions 1556-1699.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, the first specimen 3.77 g.

Catalog reference: MIR 203. Crippa 9; the second specimen Biaggi-1552; Crippa-10; MIR-204.
