Saxe-Altenburg 1613-WA thaler Dav-7365

Sincona sale 22, lot 1645

This specimen was lot 1645 in Sincona sale 22 (Zurich, May 2015), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$314 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"Sachsen-Altenburg, Herzogtum, Johann Philipp, Friedrich, Johann Wilhelm, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1603-1625 Taler 1613. Saalfeld. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Altenburg, John Philip, Frederick, John William and Frederick William II (1603-25), thaler of 1613, Saalfeld mint, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The SCWC lists many different thalers for Saxe-Altenburg. This type is noted from 1613-18 and is common. The last of the brothers died in 1639.
