Zurich 1670 1/2 ducat Fr-465
This specimen was lot 3638 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 700 CHF (about US$925 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Halbdukat 1670, Zürich. Löwe nach links mit Palmzweig und Zürcher Wappenschild. Rv. Jahreszahl mit Inschrift in einem Lorbeerkranz. Fast vorzüglich. Leicht gewellt. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, half ducat of 1670, Zürich mint. Obverse: lion facing left with palm branch and city arms; reverse: inscription and date in a laurel wreath. About extremely fine, Slightly wavy flan.)"
The SCWC lists two half ducats for 1670 (KM 59 and KM 97) but does not offer images of either; the KM attribution is therefore tentative. Other half ducats of the period (KM 91) depict the lion brandishing a sword.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.75 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 1.72 g.
