Poland 1833-NG zloty
This specimen was lot 456 in Sincona sale 78 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Nicholas I. 1825-1855, 15 Kopecks - 1 Zloty 1833, St. Petersburg Mint, NG. About extremely fine." Despite Russian promises of autonomy, the czar found the Poles to be the most obstreperous of all his subjects. Major rebellions occurred in 1831 and 1863. This issue was struck 1832-41 in Warsaw and St. Petersburg. One zloty equalled thirty groszy. Russian coinage for Poland ended in 1850.
