This specimen was lot 1121 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Medellín, gold 2 pesos, 1885/74, fineness 0.666/0.900, very rare, ex-JEAS. Polished XF with scratches in front of neck, from the same three-coin series in lower fineness as lot 1117 above, similarly represented today by only five known examples, only two of which have been on the market in the past thirteen years, the others similarly damaged or in lower grade, egregiously missing in Eldorado. Pedigreed to the JEAS Collection." This rare type accompanied an equally rare Colombia 1885-M 5 pesos|five pesos]] and ten pesos as part of a attempt to recirculate gold in Colombia. Despite the debasement to 16 karat gold, it was a failure. When the next two pesos was struck in the 1970's, it was in copper.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.22 g, 0.666 fine gold, this specimen 3.07 grams.

Catalog reference: Restrepo-327.1; Sed-35; KM-A154a; Fr-105a.
