The first specimen was lot 2548 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $96. The catalog description[1] noted, "MYSORE: Tipu Sultan, 1782-1799, AV fanam, Kalikut, AM1215 (1786), Mauludi date above mintname // large Persian H (for Haider Ali, father of Tipu Sultan), PCGS graded MS62." The second specimen was lot 38602 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[2] noted, "INDIA. Mysore. Fanam, ND (1783-87). Kalikut Mint. Tipu Sultan. PCGS MS-63." The Indian state of Mysore, under her rulers Haider Ali (1761-82) and Tipu Sultan (1782-99), was a serious thorn in the side of the British Raj. The Mauludi Era (AM) was a calendar invented and used only by Tipu Sultan and it lapsed after his death in battle in 1799. This type was struck AM1198-1200 and 1215 at Kalikut instead of Patan. Ten fanams made a pagoda.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.33-0.40 g, gold, the first specimen 0.38 g, the second specimen 0.37 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-1353; KM-78.
