Ponterio sale 169, lot 22223
Honduras 1885 peso rev Ponterio 169-22223.jpg

This specimen was lot 22223 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $135. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. Peso, 1885. Toned. ABOUT UNCIRCULATED." This type was issued in Honduras 1883-1903 and 1914 and usually comes poorly struck. It is much commoner than the earlier KM 51, issued 1881-83. Varieties, overdates, etc., abound. The peso was dropped in favor of the lempira in 1931.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-52; El-22.
