This specimen was lot 25054 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $910.23. The catalog description[1] noted, "Vittorio Emanuele III 20 Lire 1928-R VI, MS63 NGC, lightly toned with full mint bloom, very scarce type in mint state. Struck to mark the 10th anniversary of the end of World War I." This type was struck for the kingdom of Italy in 1928. It has a substantial mintage but few seem to have been released as they are seldom seen. Vittorio Emanuele III succeeded his father Umberto upon the latter's assassination in 1900, but by 1928 he was the helpless tool of the Fascists.
Recorded mintage: 3,536,250.
Specification: 20 g, 0.600 fine silver, .385 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM 70, Dav-146.
