This specimen was lot 2047 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "AFSHARID: Nadir Mirza, 1796-1803, AR rupi, Mashhad, AH1216, lovely strike, VF-EF, RR." Nadir Mirza was an Afsharid prince who was permitted to rule in Mashhad by the Qajar shah, Fath Ali. In 1802, he rebelled in an attempt to restore Afsharid rule, for which he was captured, blinded and killed. The SCWC notes a shahi (KM 768) and this rupi from his brief rule, both rare. Mashhad was later made a Qajar mint.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 11.5 g, silver, this specimen 11.43 g.
Catalog reference: A-2785, KM 769.
