This specimen was lot 2423 in Goldberg sale 98 (Los Angeles, June 2017), where it sold for $3,995. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Double-crown, ND. James I, 1603-1625. Second coinage. Initial or mintmark Coronet (1607-09). Crowned 4th bust right. Reverse: Crowned square shield with 'I R' at sides. Struck on a broad flan allowing for full and generally clear lettering in the legends, with an unusually pleasing portrait for this issue, showing doubling only on the king's nose and a few letters of the legends, with only small abrasions in the soft gold, in the obverse field mainly. Finer than most. NGC graded MS-62. WINGS."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 4.5 g, 0.917 fine gold.
