(bishopric of Munster, Ferdinand of Bavaria, 1612-50, thaler of 1634, Munster mint. Edge defects, very fine.)"</blockquote> All the thalers of Münster are scarce. The town and the region were thoroughly devastated by the Thirty Years War and never recovered. The bishop succeeded in establishing the Counter-Reformation there and holding the region for the Catholic Church. This type of 1633-46 is among the more available for this locale. This specimen was lot 15 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €480 (about US$647 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
