Jean Elsen sale 145, lot 1474

This specimen was lot 1474 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €145 (about US$207 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Charles Quint (1506-1555), AR double patard, 1509, Anvers. D/ Ecu couronné d'Autriche-Bourgogne, dans un polylobe. R/ Croix fleuronnée, un lion en coeur. Très Beau. Provient de notre vente 80, 12 juin 2004, 1325. (duchy of Brabant, Charles V, 1506-55, silver double patard of 1509, Antwerp mint. Obverse: crowned arms of Austria and Burgundy in a polylobe; reverse: floriate cross, a lion at the center. Very Fine.)"

This type was struck 1506-14. The reverse motto, "OMNIS ✶SPIRITVS ✶LAVDET ✶ DOMINO", translates as "Every spirit praises the Lord".

Recorded mintage: 2,778,900 for 1506-14.

Specification: 3.10 g, 0.639 fine silver, 29 mm diameter, this specimen 2,88 g.
