from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71190
Livonia SB220-71190r.jpg

This specimen was lot 71190 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIVONIA. 1/24 Taler, 1648. Riga Mint. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. Struck in the name of Queen Christina of Sweden, this pleasing minor offers a solid strike and charming brilliance. A few deposits are noted, but not overly distracting." This obscure type is listed for 1644-49. This denomination issued for Gustavus Adolphus (KM 10) is quite a bit more available. Riga and Livonia were seized by Sweden from Poland in 1621 and retained by them until their loss to Russia in 1721.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-31.
