Sincona sale 18, lot 1545

This specimen was lot 1545 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 110 (about US$145 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Vereinstaler 1871. Siegestaler. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of Saxony, union thaler of 1871, on the victory, extremely fine)"

This thaler was issued in 1871 on the occasion of German victory in the Franco-Prussian War. It is common.

Recorded mintage: 45,000.

Specification: 18.52 g, 0.900 fine silver, .536 troy oz ASW, lettered edge, this specimen 18,53 g.
