This specimen was lot 3414 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $2,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. 1,000 Franc, 1987-A. PCGS PROOF-69. Shooting festival in Glarus commemorative. RARE, from a mintage of a scant 300 pieces. Attractive motif with satiny frosted central design with a flashing brilliant proof ring around. Neither areas show any points of contact or handling. Housed in an old green label PCGS holder." This shooting festival token had a nominal face value during the festival which ended once the festival was over. However, as it continues a old tradition of such pieces, the series (in gold and silver) remains popular and is mentioned in Friedberg and the SCWC Unusual World Coins. This one, the fourth in the modern series, is accompanied by a silver fifty francs (KM XS28).
Recorded mintage: 300.
Specification: 26 g, 0.900 fine gold, .752 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: Fr-510; Bruce-S29; HMZ-2-1346d.
