This specimen was lot 22449 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $423. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1734. George II (1727-60). PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Roses and plumes in angles. Only mild wear to the high points of the laurel and hair. Nice cabinet toning of medium color with underlying luster visible in protected areas. From the Rye Collection." This type was struck with numerous variants 1727-41 and is fairly common in worn condition. This bust was used 1734-37. The mint did not produce near enough small change for the industrial boom of the eighteenth century, leading to a proliferation of private tokens. The situation would not be rectified until the reform of 1817.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not rare.
Specification: 6.02 g, 0.925 fine silver, .179 troy oz ASW.
