Stephen Album internet sale 28, lot 1222

This specimen was lot 1222 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN: Karl XIV, 1818-1844, AE 1/6 skilling, 1832, a wonderful lustrous example! PCGS graded MS64 RB." By the reform of 1830, 32 skilling banco = one riksdaler. Carl was originally a general in Napoleon's army who accepted the Swedish king's invitation to marry the king's daughter and become his heir. He ruled 1818-44 and his descendants reign over Sweden today. This type was struck 1832 only. Varieties exist with a bare bust of the king (KM 633) and with a pearled border (KM 635); the one shown here is the most common.

Recorded mintage: 912,000 (all varieties).

Specification: 2.8 g, copper, 19 mm diameter (4.3 g, 21.3 mm diameter per Delzanno).
