Cyprus 1928 45 piastres rev DC.jpg

This silver crown was struck during the reign of George V, king of Great Britain 1910-36, to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the seizure of Cyprus from the Turks in 1878. Tho denominated in piastres, it is the same size and weight as a British crown of five shillings and is the only coin of that size issued for the island. It is not scarce in circulated condition but rather expensive choice.

Recorded mintage: 80,000 plus 517 proofs.

Specification: 26.96 g, 0.925 fine silver, .841 troy oz ASW, 38 mm diameter, designed by G. Krueger-Gray.

Catalog reference: KM 19.
