This specimen was lot 37423 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "SCOTLAND. 20 Pence, ND (1636). Edinburgh Mint. Charles I. PCGS VF-35. Falconer's second issue. From the Richard August Collection." The reverse mottoo, "IVST : THRONVM : FIRMAT ·", means "Justice strengthens the throne". Falconer was the son-in-law of Nicholas Briot, who was hired by the king to improve the manufacture of Scottish coinage. Twenty pence was one twelfth of a Scottish pound or one eighth merk.
