This specimen was lot 42510 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $5,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. 2 Kroner, 1892. Kongsberg Mint. Oscar II. PCGS MS-63. A type that is seemingly never encountered in problem-free states of preservation, as is the case with this Choice specimen, this stunner features a frosty white argent nature acting as an enticing backdrop to hues of varying degrees of burnished goldenrod and champagne throughout. No doubt, a RARE offering with this much flair. From the Richard Margolis Collection." In 1907, Norway obtained a divorce from Sweden and became an independent kingdom under a Danish prince. Even before passing under Swedish rule in 1814, Norway had enjoyed a separate coinage from Denmark. The specimen shown here is from of a type struck 1878, 1885-94, 1897-1904 and was accompanied by a silver fifty øre and one krone of similar design. Many dates are very scarce.
