This specimen is a common date of a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1962-2001. Some of the later dates, such as 1998, 1999 and 2001, are only available from FDC sets. This type was accompanied by a similar five, ten and fifty centimes. All were demonetized with the coming of the euro in 2002.

Recorded mintage: 39,755,000.

Specification: 4 g, aluminum-bronze, 23.5 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Henri Lagriffoul (1907-81) and Adrien Dieudonné (1912-82).
