This specimen is a common date of a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1962-2001. Some of the later dates, such as 1989, 1992 and 1999-2001, are only available from FDC sets. This type was accompanied by a similar twenty, ten and fifty centimes (until 1964). All were demonetized with the coming of the euro in 2002. Several dates have "three fold" and "four fold" varieties, so called from the folds in the front of Mlle Liberté's gown.
