Stack's Bowers 2014 ANA sale, lot 615

This specimen was lot 615 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $499.38. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. 20 Franc, 1810-A. NGC MS-63. A few marks on Napoleon's cheek, but otherwise a handsome example." This is a common date of a common type but choice specimens are surprisingly scarce.

Recorded mintage: 1,934,466.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, 21 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier.
