This specimen was lot 9178 in Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009), where it sold for $385.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Franc, 1808-BB. Minor adjustment marks, nice strike. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED." This type was struck 1808 only and represents the fifth type of franc struck under the new decimal coinage system. This Strasbourg mint issue is unusually common for a branch mint issue but still expensive in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 2,125,766[2].

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, decorated edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
