In 1967, New Zealand abandoned the sterling coinage she had used since the days of Captain Cook and adopted the decimal dollar and cent. This ten cents was struck 1967-69 in large numbers. It is the same module as the old shilling. The word "SHILLING" was dropped for the issue of 1970-85. Coinage, formerly obtained exclusively from the London mint, is divided among that mint and the Canberra mint and Ottawa mint.
Recorded mintage: 17,000,000 plus 50,000 prooflike plus 10 proofs.
Specification: 5.66 g, copper-nickel, 23.62 mm diameter, reeded edge.
