Sincona sale 89, lot 563

This specimen was lot 563 in Sincona sale 89 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 4,750 CHF (about US$6,277 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Bayern, Herzogtum, seit 1623 Kurfürstentum, Maximilian I. 1598-1651. 2 Dukaten 1642, München. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Partin Bank 14, München, Mai 1982, Los 6. (Germany, electorate of Bavaria, Maximilian I, 1598-1651, double ducat of 1642, Munich mint. Extremely fine.)"

Maximilian I was the first duke of Bavaria to hold the electoral dignity. This type of 1642-47 may actually have been intended for circulate.
